First Friends Preschool of First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin
First Friends Preschool operate under the Session of First Presbyterian Church, Dunedin. We are licensed by Pinellas County License Board for Children's Centers and Family Day Care Homes under license #C620524.
The main objective of our progran is to provide a positive Christian inclusive atmosphere for all children. Children under our care develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Learning experiences are appropriate for the developmental age of each child.
Based on the theory that children learn through play, classroom routines encourage active involvement, meaningful experimentation and reinforcement through repetition.
Positive guidance techniques are used to enhance the children's feeling of self-worth. The daily schedule includes large and small group interaction which helps the children learn to cooperate and share, self-selected activities which stimulate growth and creativity as well as emotional and social development outdoor activities which help develop large and small motor skills. Nutritious snacks are given each day.
The staff of First Friends Preschool, as both care givers and teachers are required to meet all state and local requirements.
First Friends Preschool
First Friends Preschool is a mission of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin and an outreach to the community. We are a licensed preschool of Pinellas County. We offer quality care at affordable prices while providing young children ages 1 through 5 the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to mature academically, socially, and spiritually. Our school teaches children how to sustain relationships with each other and how to start becoming citizens of a larger community. Religious education is an important component of our curriculum. Using faith-based curriculum, we are able to plant seeds of Christ’s love in each lesson. The Pastor teaches monthly chapel lessons in the Sanctuary coinciding with our monthly Bible verse. The director of music, teaches a bi-weekly Christian music class using the Karl Orff method of instrument training for children ages 3 to 5. Scheduled visitors are regularly welcomed to teach the children according to our weekly lesson plans.
The preschool staff includes the director of operations and six (seven) classroom teachers. The Church Administrator also serves as accountant to the preschool, taking the responsibility for receiving tuition. The preschool maintains a Christ-like atmosphere for children and employees. We offer scholarships to families in need for a limited amount of time. Our business plan is followed and the preschool makes every effort to pay its own expenses, not relying on the Church for financial support.
Our preschool is open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, year-round to accommodate the needs of working parents in the community. Feedback and comments from our parents continue to be positive according to the yearly Parent Questionnaire. We accept school readiness students with state funding from the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County. We also provide a VPK (voluntary pre-kindergarten) classroom which scores are among the highest in the area, including local elementary schools. First Friends Preschool continues to be Dunedin’s little treasure.
